I used to do Clarinet, but mine is all dumb and stuff, and kinda
died on me 'cause its over 40 years old or so.
I've been playing guitar for quite a while now. My teacher is amazing.
I didnt think I could learn anything this fast.
And I sing, too.
I can agree. Some songs are hard to sing/play with.
Some AFS songs are easy to do if you play the rythm, but trying to do the melody line and sing is challanging.

i seriously like... cant sing and play at once like at all. even if im just doing the rhythm. seriously, i mess up like if the music has any rests at all in it. im decent when im just playing, and im pretty good when im just singing, but trying to do both comes out ick.

for tuning probs...
there are plenty of tuners on the net that give you the pitch for each string, im too lazy to find one now, but PM me about it and ill look into it for ya
for learning songs...
try www.ultimate-guitar.com
theres bunches o' tab there. i suggest checking into the intro for "Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo" by Bloodhound Gang if ya like it, its pretty easy. like the first thing i learned.
yes, even before smoke on the water.
if ya have stuff that you have questions about, like how to read tab or basically anything else, just PM me and ill tell you if i know.
im pretty sure standard tuning is...
EADGBE
yeah, that looks right.
once youve got the 6th string (the thickest one) tuned right, that's an E.
open A string should sound exactly like the 5th fret on the low E string.
open D = 5th fret on A
open G = 5th fret on D
open B = 4th fret on G
open high E = 5th fret on G
tune it low to high, thats the easiest.
P.S.: you're welcome

i think my only problem is tuning, i mean that's all you really need to know if you're just playing tabs you look up online, for the most part, then you just memorize the tabs.
i need to get it tuned to standard one day.
maybe i'll steal my friends tuner.

well, its like i said, if youve got a decent ear as far as pitches go, there are sites that play an audio file for how each string should sound when it's played open.
AH! this is the one ive used.
http://www.worldguitar.com/tuner.htmljust click on each string to hear the pitch, and adjust your tuning to match it.

well, it depends.
if youve got the amp on a distortion setting, then yeah, turn the amp off. its way harder to hear the exact pitch with a distorted guitar. if youre gonna run it clean, you can go ahead and leave the amp on.

I'm a bassist for the band Rise With The Fallen out of Staten Island, NY. For those of you complaining about coordination for guitar, please don't try bass, because that's an instrument you really need to keep perfect timing for, since it's a rythym instrument. The frets are also even in length to 2 and a half guitar frets, so they're rather long, along with that the strings are massive. I'm a little crazy and I play with the heaviest bass strings on the market (GHS heavies, at a rating of 75-115) on a bass built for playing metal (and Ibanez SRX 390) and I use distortion, delay, and reverb all the time, along with other things, such as slides and harmonics in my music that's more apropriate to use on a guitar, and even guitarists don't use it, yet I'm using in on a bass. My band is closest to categorized as goth/avant-garde metal. We use elements of Floyd, such as odd sounds and instruments, as well as we plan on even building some instruments we wish to use from scratch (such as a theremin and an armonica). I'm a very unique bassist, and my unique style can be found strongly in my bands music, so check out my band's myspace at www.myspace.com/risewiththefallen6 and keep checking back every so often for us to post up music (or just subscribe to our blog and we'll post a blog when we post music), it will sound very unique.

EEP! i know what you mean there about it being hard to play. i've tried bass exactly once, and well, i sucked at it. lol. my coordination's decent for guitar, but if i record something and then play it back i can always pick up on where it was sloppy and rarely fix it.
