Yeah. Too bad almost all the good San Diego bands are broken up.

I know what you mean.

They keep dropping like flies.

Even Pinback called it quits and that makes me sad, cause that was some catchy pop music. At least Rob did some solo work.
Broomy
Ryan Ferguson from No Knife put out some solo stuff too a couple years ago. Not sure if he's still kickin' or what.

The only locals that I really like now are Kill Me Tomorrow and the Castanets. Sad state of affairs.

i really think emo is that feel you get inside when you've taken a child hostage..

I'm not entirely sure though.

I did too.

My mom asked me like a week ago "Who is emo?"
And I was just like, "What?"
She thought emo was a person.
Like a celebrity or something like that.
I found that hilarious.
Then I had to explain to her what "emo" is.
It was kind of complicating.
I still don't think she understands.
Broomy
It is a person...

the first person to say Hawthorne Heights is emo, i'm gonna smack you.
emo has NOTHING to do with "cut my wrist and black my eyes".

emo music is all about how it sounds, not the lyrics.

think about it this way, if...AC\DC or any rock band had a song about dying, a girl or something, it's still rock...
but all of a sudden because Hawthorne Heights sings about cutting or something, they're emo? wtf.

try listening to some real emo bands..
Frodus
Sunny Day Real Estate
Rites Of Spring
Soulside

i could go on...

ok. if you are really bread, i would sodomize with you. HAWTHORNE HEIGHTS is like my life outside of AFS. They actually saved my life. and i owe them anything and everything. i would take a bullet for them.

but more on topic.

There's a book called "Everybody Hurts." Probably most of you have heard of it. i read it in about 2 days. little bit less, but whatever. it had some good points in it. if you take the time to read it, it doesn't just bash the Emo culture. it explains it, and at times, does poke fun at it.

and it's true that if you can take the best emo picture on myspace, you'll elegedly amass 36million[not a stupid bulletin-type curse, but it builds up] "friends" and then get deleted. it's a fact. "Emo" kids take better pictures for myspace. but i digress. Emo is a type of music. it's not a type of person.

there is no type of person, persay. you could lable someone "prep" "emo" "goth" "nerd" etc, but does it really matter? while we're alive, we thinks it does. but does it really? ill answer for you. no. it doesn't. to be labled is stupid; to lable people is even more stupid.

and people say "whull.....I dont see color." BULLSHIT. yes you do. we like to think everyone is equal, but steryotypes are too prevelant. they're here now. they've been here for centuries[all the way back to BC times[BCE, so i dont offend anyone]. they'll be here forever. it's a fact. we should overlook them, but it's impossible. it is.

to quote the "trusty" wikipedia,
"A subsequent United States Department of Justice report which surveyed homicide statistics between 1974 and 2004 stated that of the crimes surveyed, 52.1% of the offenders were Black, 45.9% were White, and 2% were Other Races. Of the victims in those same crimes, 51% were White, 46.9% were Black, and 2.1% were Other Races."
African-Americans contribute to a higher number of inamtes in jails. its a fact. because of that fact, racial profiling sets in.

racial profiling is just a fancy way to say racism. it's here. it's gonna stay. it sucks, but it's true. so for people to say they don't see color, what would you do if someone asked you to walk down the most notoriously "ghetto" street in your city. would you say
A.)no. I'll get shot
B.)How much? ... How much will you pay me?
C.)sure. [then never actually do it]

no matter your answer, you're racist. but it's not without reason. chances are, if you're white and look rich, you have a higher chance of getting mugged or shot on a poverished street than an african-american that looks to be poversihed as well.

too bad. it's how the world is, and it will never change.

Peace in the middle east,

BreadTM
i don't feel like reading that.

but i'll point you here http://afsboard.warnerreprise.com/index.php?showtopic=323

and i love hawthorne heights too, wink.gif
Broomy
Don't bother. It'll substantially lower your iq.
scouterdef

Hawthrone Heights saved your life?? Funny, because they make me want to end my life, specially if I have to suffer through another one of their sets.

And 2nd, you lose all credibility for anything you said, because you quoted Wikipedia....

And 3rd, Peace in the Middle East; Do you realize that there has NEVER, ever been peace there?? Well before the United States entered there and welllll before the Romans did as well. SO there will never be peace in the middle east.
Broomy
There isn't peace anywhere.

Can't quite figure out what evil monkeys have to do with emo, but I'm pretty sure there's a nice mental hospital close by that you can check in to.

What have you become....
Just the prettiest picture of a broken face with a third of the appeal and never worth the chase
No sense in steering now
The brakes are out and the search for interests
Or boy meets girl is the counterculture clock ticking out a song
that paints the shadow of this world
The lights are brighter when the game is new
And though I've tried
I wish I could say the same for you
Don't forget that when you cease to see things the way you want to
It's the least important people that come back to haunt you
If the past were photographs
I'd tear them all up into shreds
If our exchange of words was free I'd type another to the wind
One last wish for one lasting good-bye
No one here will miss you when you're gone
Make your selection
Another one will come along

Mmmm Indian Summer!

Anyone who can use Bessie Smith in their songs gets major play with me. Ok fine, maybe just Indian Summer.
Broomy
You're insane man.
icas
No more Hot Cross.

I really hope Billy continues screaming in another band, because his lyrics are epic.
Broomy
Yeah, I heard that a little while ago. It's a damn shame. I just planned on seeing them on their current tour too. No such luck, I guess.

For the record, in a meeting last week Ben referred to Armor as an 'emo band'... thought it was interesting because I never had any clue what to call them. I try not to classify bands because it seems like the definitions are so subjective.

yah you see all sorts of bands getting called emo. i dotn really classify my usic either. other then screamo... and punk.

wow.
yeah, i try not to classify, unless i really know what the band is..

I refer them as music ... i say "fuck labeling"
Broomy
Maybe some of the subgenres can get a bit ridiculous, but labelling is necessary.

I really dont think it is ... because the majority of the people labeling shit (record industry), havent a freaking clue what anything is... So they just label a new band whatever is popular at the time, so that band can make that label money
